The AL v NL rivalry has its own history does it not?
If I were to be born again I’d probably be a fan of a
National League team. (No i’m not deciding to switch over after 9.5 years). I prefer close, well pitched games more so than home run contests, I find the
“small ball” tactics to be quite entertaining (never got into the whole “
chicks dig the long ball thing“. I’d have
Glavine and
Maddux on my team any day!) and can never quite get enough of a sparkling, infield defense. I find the pitching side of baseball
highly fascinating which explains why I prefer pitchers over hitters and the hitters I favor aren’t particularly home run hitters

. Though I do admit that
home runs can be just a thrill too!
I don’t know about all of you but there’s something about National League that screams “history” more so than American League. I am aware that the National League is much older than the American League but that must not be the only reason right? I can’t really put a finger on it but there’s something about National League that I greatly appreciate.
Now obviously the biggest debate and difference between American League and National League is the
Designated Hitter.
This
debate is as old as people complaining about how
stupid wonderful
Bud Selig was for making the
2002 All Star game end in a tie! and then having the audacity to later on make it “semi-important” in regards to playoffs. Yes we should be over it by now…… okay obviously i’m
not but you get the gist of it… we’ve been on it for a long time
Anyyyyways! I personally disagree with the DH. Though I do admit that it is very helpful in certain situations (Years of AL experience ^^) and it keeps older players in the game longer. I mean when the knees go they go. What can ya do? Though I disagree, I do not think the AL should drop it nor should the NL be forced to change. Things should stay the same. Two separate leagues. Which got me thinking…. there must be explanations for the vast difference between these two leagues. There must be explanations for why the interleague stats are what they are and reasons for the complete AL all star domination for the past 12 years. Is it because of the DH? Yes or No? Also what’s YOUR stance? DH or no DH?
Please answer the age old question
Thankfully, my National League preferences are met by my team.
Angels are very “National League” thanks to Sosh (
Mike Scioscia) and crew who are adamant about great defense, reliable starting 5 and speed on the base paths. Though a bit problematic at times when facing such
offensive power houses I do appreciate the
emphasis on pitching and defense. I don’t have to jump ship after all
Speaking of National League our inside joke in the fam is that it would be much easier on us to go to games more frequently if we were Dodger fans because Dodger Stadium is only 20 minutes away unlike Angel Stadium which is about an hour and a half.
With love comes sacrifices right?
Random Notes:
-First of all, apologies for the blog drought. School keeps a girl busy. Whoever said that the last year of high school was going to be easy should be sent to jail for lying to millions of incoming senior students.
-Second of all, I hope you all enjoyed the Super Bowl as much as I did! Who dat? Who dat say they’re gonna beat dem Saints?! I’m not a Saints fan but I (like half the nation) was rooting for them! Their Super Bowl win means so much more than the game. Congrats to the team, Drew Brees, (the MVP), and the city of New Orleans!!
