Meet my rally monkey! He’s been with me for about 3 months now  

So most people ask… what’s with the monkey? Where did it originate? Why is it so annoying?  Its an age old question (along with the team name issue but that’s for a whole ‘nother blog post don’t cha think?). Don’t you fear bloggers I am here to clear your questions!

history lesson in 3 2 1

The Rally Monkey debuted in June 6 2000 when the Angels were losing 5-4 against the San Fran Giants in the 9th. The board operators took a video of a monkey jumping around from the 1994 Jim Carrey movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and put the words RALLY MONKEY on top. The Angels came from behind to win the game. The popularity skyrocketed so they hired a monkey Katie, a white-haired capuchin monkey, to do original clips for games later on. It soon gained national world wide popularity in 2002 WS against yet again the San Fran Giants. In game 6 Angels were facing elimination as they were losing the series 3-2 and losing the game 5-0 in the 7th. The monkey was shown again for support and the Angels scored 6 runs over the next two innings, winning the game and the first world series in Angels history.
